Diabetic Diet: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best diet for diabetes?

There is no single best diet. Plans that focus on vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and fewer sugary or highly processed foods help most people. A dietitian can tailor portions to your medicines and goals.

Do I need to avoid all sugar?

Not always. Small amounts can fit into a meal plan, but sugary drinks and sweets raise blood sugar quickly, so keep them occasional and count them in your carbohydrate total.

How often should I eat?

Many people do well with regular meals and planned snacks, but timing depends on your medicines. Follow the schedule your care team gives you.
